8 Ways you can get better at Portion Control

A lot times, the right foods are being consumed but the wrong portions and an excessive amount is being digested. The fundamental step of losing weight is to burn more calories than consumed, hence, bad portion control can slow your fitness goals down. There is a clear cut difference between healthy and unhealthy options, but there is no difference in calories when an excessive amount of food is being eaten. Here are 8 ways you can become better at portion control:

1. Divide the plate before eating

Don't let your foods touch. Sounds childish right? It's not, separating your foods will give you a better outlook on what you are eating. If your plate if full of excessive carbs and not enough protein or starch, you will be very well aware of the imbalance.

2. If you are treating yourself, Pre-portion those treats

There will come a time when that Ice cream is going to call your name with authority. It's okay, just keep in mind to portion it before eating. You can do that by having a cup designated for ice cream ( a small one). Just do not eat from a big package or container because it will only tempt you.

3. Use smaller dishes

It's simple, the bigger the plate, the bigger your appetite. Purchase and use small dishes to downgrade the size of your dishes. For instance, if you are currently using a 12-14 inch dinner plate, use one that is about 8-10 in.

4. Limit your food choices

The more options you have, the more you want to try. Buy enough food for only one or two weeks, and switch it up the next period.

5. Avoid tempting treats such as candy from the jar at work

One or two of those small chocolate bars from work do count. Small treats throughout the day can add up and prevent you from achieving your fitness goals.

6. Avoid watching TV or videos while eating or for a long time

The more time you have, the more hunger creeps up on you. Sedentary activities like playing video games or watching television urges you to snack for energy that is not needed because none is being used.

7. Skip the juice sometimes, Think before you drink

Don't go overboard on the juice, or drink jugs of juice. Take accountability by using small glasses and going for a refill to keep you aware.

8. Eat the foods that are good for you

Eat more of the green stuff called vegetables and see how better it tastes. You will feel great if you eat right, you just have to decide to live that Flex Fit Lifestyle.
